That guy.

It's one of those silent and pensive nights at the Western Air Temple. Katara and Aang sit together, talking in low voices. Teo, The Duke, and Haru have all gone off to bed, and Zuko sits playing with the fire, knowing he has to put it out soon. Sokka leans against a pillar, his head tilted back. He's looking toward the moon. Toph can't even feel its light, but Katara has already explained as much as she can.
"Is it full tonight?" she asks cautiously.
Sokka's nerves jump slightly. He's startled to find her standing there.
"Nah... it's a crescent tonight."
She nods, knowing the shape, and says nothing more, content to blindly gaze in the general direction, imagining the thin smile of light among the pinpoints of star in the vast dark sky. Sometimes she wishes she could see it.
"I think she's proud of you," she says suddenly, so that her cheeks burn pink and she has to duck her head to let her bangs hide her face. "Strong warrior that you are and all."
The corner of his mouth twitches and he looks away from the moon, wanting to tell her how openly and sweetly the light falls on her. Normally he'd lament at how he wasn't strong enough then to protect her. But maybe that time is past.
